for a 2005 Kawasaki Nomad 1600 by Trip Hilliard ![]() After I bought my 2005 Nomad, it didn't take long for the "front light" bug to hit me. So, I started researching what was available for the 2005 Nomad 1600. After taking a look at numerous light bars (Fire & Steel, Cobra, etc.), I decided that I really didn't want to install a traditional light bar because I would have to take off the stock running light bar and relocate my blinkers. Also, I decided I didn't want to mount lights to the existing running light bar as it might overwhelm the bar over time and make it unstable. So, I started looking for front light alternatives and found one in the Light Bars by Value Accessories. Notice I said "Bars". This light kit goes in as two separate light bars utilizing the windshield and fork shield mounts on your forks. Here are the particulars and installation instructions: 1. Log on to Value Accessories at http://store.valueaccessories.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1582 and order the Light Bars (Lights Included) For Nomad 1600, 05+ - Part #02-021. Cost (at the time of this writing) is $190.15. This includes two billet aluminum light bars and two 35-watt, type A incandescent lights. The kit comes complete for installation and comes with a nice installation sheet that is easy to follow. 2. I also ordered the Chrome Cable Cover, (5' Length, .25" Inside diameter) located at the bottom of the page. Cost was $12.50. The lights come with 18-gauge, black wire. I decided it would look better with a chrome wire cover than black. To finish up this project, you will need to purchase a 15-amp fuse. ![]() 3. Once your lights arrive, unpack them and install them according to the provided instructions. Be sure to install the nylon washers where indicated in the instructions. Once bolted on to your forks, your lights will automatically be grounded. There is only one wire coming out of the lights and that's to hook into your desired power source. 4. At this point, slip the power wires through the chrome wire covers. Make sure and feed plenty of chrome wire cover into the back of your lights into the rubber grommet. Route your wiring as you see fit and feed the wire into the back opening of your main headlight bucket. Cover your front fender with a cloth and unscrew your front headlight and set it between your forks on the cloth. 5. There are several options in wiring your lights up to power and it really depends on how you want your lights to operate. A good way to hook them up is explained on Gadget's Page entitled, "Hooking Up Driving Lights". Gadget's wiring affords you the opportunity to install a relay and switch. I chose to hook my lights up to the running lights of the 2005 Nomad 1600. I wanted the lights to come on with the ignition and stay dim even when I had my headlight on bright. Plus, I didn't want to have a power switch that I might leave on accidentally. To do that, I connected the new lights to the 2 blue wires in the headlight bucket. On the 2005 Nomad, the running lights in the bucket are the solid blue wires. On the 2005 Nomad there is also an auxiliary power wire in the light bucket (black wire located in an open, plastic protector) directly connected to the battery. So, if you choose to hook your lights straight to the battery and install an inline switch without a relay, you are able to do that. ![]() 6. All that is left now is to adjust and tighten the lights to your headlight low beam setting and you're done. ![]() |
